Donatella Lippi, Professor of History of Medicine and Bioethics, University of Florence (Italy)
Donatella Lippi is Associate Professor of History of Medicine at the Florence Medical School. She is a scholar of Classics, but her background also comprises different specializations in Archaeology, Palaeography, Bioethics and the History of Medicine. These studies have determined her knowledge and experience in the sector of a critical approach and towards sources and a mastery of their value and significance. Her main areas of interest concern the practice and the ideology of medicine in its relationship to historical and cultural contexts. She has worked on the Renaissance, with particular regard to the situation of Florence and Tuscany, collaborating with the Documentation Centre for the History of Florentine Health. She is author of many scientifical papers and of several books and monographies. She is the responsible of the Medici Project for the University of Florence.
