Elena Cattaneo, PhD, Director, Centre for Stem Cell Research, Department of Pharmacological Sciences, University of Milano (Italy)
Born in Milano in 1962, Elena Cattaneo obtained the Laurea Degree in Pharmacy and the PhD in Biotechnology at the University of Milano. She has been a post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at M.I.T.(USA), under the supervision of Prof. Ron Mckay. Since 2003 she has been a full professor of Pharmacology at the University of Milano.
She leads the Laboratory of Stem Cell Biology and Pharmacology of Neurodegenerative Diseases and is Co-Founder and Director of UniStem, the Centre for Stem Cell Research of the University of Milano. Her interests include the biology of neural stem cells and the molecular pathophysiology of Huntington’s Disease.
She is participating in European Union funded consortia such as Eurostemcell, Estools, NeuroNE and STEM-HD, and is leading an international team of investigators aimed at understanding the normal function of huntingtin (H.D.S.A. Foundation, NY).
