Mark Bell, Commissioning Executive, Specialist Factual - Independents, BBC (UK)

Mark Bell is the Commissioning Editor, Specialist Factual, Independents – part of the BBC Knowledge Commissioning team.

Mark Bell reports to Richard Klein, the Head of Independent Knowledge Commissioning, and is responsible for commissioning specialist factual programmes and multiplatform content.

Prior to taking on this role, from 2004 Mark worked as a Channel Executive at BBC Two and BBC Four, where he worked directly to the Channel Controllers, overseeing all elements of editorial management of the channels.

During this time he was executive lead on a number of high-profile projects including BBC Two’s Summer Of British Film season and numerous nights and seasons on BBC Four including The Edwardians, The Lost Decade, Pop On Trial and Science Fiction Britannia.

Mark Bell began his career in television as a researcher and then producer in BBC Music & Arts.

In 2001 he moved to Newsnight as Series Producer before joining the Specialist Factual department as a Series Producer in 2002.
