Alexander Hesse, Head of Department, History and Society, ZDF (Germany)
Alexander Hesse, born 1969, obtained degrees in journalism, political science and business economics at the Universities of Frankfurt and Mainz. He was a scholarship holder of Karl Holzamer foundation at ZDF and worked as an author and freelance for ZDF and CNN during his studies.
In the year of 2000, Hesse became a programme executive in the Department History and Society, ZDF, and was promoted to head of the department in January 2006. Before joining the Department History and Society, he worked as an editor and author for heute journal from 1996 to 1998 and after that two years for hallo Deutschland.
Alexander Hesse is responsible for the successful prime time documentaries of ZDF Expedition including Terra X, Sphinx, Schliemanns Erben and Mission X. Furthermore, he is in charge of the documentary time slot in the afternoon and the series 37°. In addition, Hesse is responsible for ZDF’s cultural shows Unsere Besten.
