Amanda Barnard, CSIRO Virtual Nanoscience Laboratory (Australia)
Amanda Barnard is currently a Queen Elizabeth II Fellow and Leader of the Virtual Nanoscience Laboratory at CSIRO. She received her B.Sc (Applied Physics) and Ph.D. (Physics) from RMIT University in 2003. Dr Barnard then spent 2 years as a Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Nanoscale Materials at Argonne National Laboratory (USA), and 3 years in the prestigious senior research position of Violette & Samuel Glasstone Fellow at the University of Oxford (UK). In recognition of her outstanding research in the field of theoretical and computational nanoscience Dr Barnard has received several awards, including the 2009 Young Scientist in Computational Physics by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz Australian Environmental Research Award by the Banksia Environmental Foundation, and the 2009 Malcolm McIntosh Award for Physical Scientist of the Year from the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research and the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science.
