Bentley Dean is a Producer, Director and Director of Photography whose films include Anatomy of a Coup (2002): the inside story of Venezuela’s dramatic 48 hour coup (Best Political Documentary Real: Life in Film. The President Versus David Hicks (2004) (AFI Award for Best Documentary and TV Week Logie for Most Outstanding Documentary). The Siege (2007): a feature length film about the love story behind the Lima hostage crisis (premiered at the Sydney film Festival and was nominated for AFI awards for best editing and best sound). A Well-Founded Fear (2008): tells the disturbing story of what happened to asylum seekers deported by the Australian government. (Australian Cinematography Society award for Best Cinematography). Contact (2009): a feature documentary about the last first-contact in the Western Desert of Australia. (Best Documentary Prize at the Sydney Film Festival and Best Achievement in Directing for Documentary, Australian Directors Guild 2009). It was released theatrically in Australia and will screen on the ABC early next year. With Martin Butler at Contact Films he is developing a series on the prehistory of Australia.
