Junichi Yamazaki, Chief Engineer, Production Engineering Development, NHK (Japan)

Junichi Yamazaki joined NHK in 1977. He worked in the NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories from 1983, contributing to the development of many imaging devices and the high-sensitivity HDTV camera. In 1996, after transferring to the NHK Headquarters, he succeeded in developing the high-speed HDTV camera. Yamazaki then joined NHK’s Space Project. He played a major role in the development of the HDCAM modified for space and succeeded in obtaining the world’s first HDTV images of the earth from the Space Shutttle in 1998. In 2006, Yamazaki contributed to the success of the live HDTV transmission from the International Space Station (ISS). He has been working on the development of the HDTV camera to install on the Japanese lunar orbiter KAGUYA since 2000. Yamazaki received a B.E. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Hokkaido. He is a member of ITE.
