Kazuhiro Kitano, Senior Producer, Science Programs, NHK (Japan)
Kitano started his career as a TV Director at NHK’s Kyoto station, producing documentary programs on history and traditional Japanese culture. In 1993, he was transferred to NHK headquarters. Since then he has directed and produced science programs, covering mainly medical science, computer science and space science. In 2007, he became Senior Producer and oversaw the weekly science-entertainment show The New Anatomy Show, which won the 2009 Asian Television Award for Best Infotainment Program. He continues to pursue his major interest, the universe. His major productions are special programs on astronomy, including Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 (1994); The Biggest Eye, SUBARU Telescope (1999); Space Millennium (9 x 1 hour series, 2001); Mars Exploration Rover, Astrobiology (2004); Stardust (2006); and live show on total solar eclipse (2009), Hubble Space Telescope Reborn (2010). He is now the commissioning editor of The Cosmic Front, a 60 minute weekly program focusing on the forefront and in-depth inquiry into the truth of the universe.
