2009 World Congress of Science & Factual Producers : Melbourne, Australia December 1-4

Kevin Dawson, Head of Corporate Communications, RTE (Australia)

Kevin Dawson was Commissioning Editor, Factual at RTÉ Television, Ireland’s leading public broadcaster, for nine years to May 2009. His slate included Arts, History, one-off narratives, observational series and major political and current affairs docs. Co-productions included the multiple award-winning Chavez: Inside The Coup and the Prix Italia winner At Home With The Clearys on the secret family of a celebrity Irish priest. RTÉ became a regular co-production partner of both SBS and the ABC in Australia, most recently with Addicted To Money, the 3-part RTE-ABC-S4C series authored by Irish presenter David McWilliams. Kevin began in media as a print journalist, later editorial exec, in national broadsheet newspapers before joining TV current affairs as a reporter and then producer. He produced and directed a range of history and other docs at RTÉ before taking on the Commissioning role. He’s a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, a Manchester United fan and likes reading biographies, journalism and road maps but usually lacks the patience for fiction. Since May 2009 he has taken up the role of Director of Corporate Communications at RTÉ.
