Martin Davidson, Commissioning Editor, History and Business Programming, BBC (UK)

Martin Davidson is Commissioning Editor for History and Business programming. Martin joined the BBC in 1988 and has worked across series as diverse as The Late Show, A History Of British Art, Reputations, and Decisive Weapons, before becoming Executive Producer of A History Of Britain by Simon Schama. In 2001 he became Head of History at RDF Media, responsible for Story Of The Novel, Spitfire Ace, Bomber Crew, Scrapheap Challenge and The Queen’s Castle among others. He returned to the BBC in 2005, and in 2009 he took over History and Business, commissioning from both in-house and from independents. Recent commissions include Mary Beard on Pompeii, First Light, Ben Macintyre’s Operation Mincemeat, The Normans, The History of Ancient Britain, Ancient Worlds, Made in Britain, The Man Who Crossed Hitler (both as drama and as supporting documentary), Turn Back Time: The High Street, and History Cold Case.
