Penny Robins, Executive Producer/Producer (Australia)
Penny has been a factual producer and executive producer for more than twenty years. She is presently working on the development of a number of projects with independent production companies as well as working on a part-time basis as a development producer for ABC TV Documentaries.
Between 2003 and early 2009 Penny worked as an Executive Producer for Film Australia. During this time she was responsible for developing, financing and executive producing a range of specialist factual programs, dramatized documentaries, natural history and contemporary observational documentaries. Her programs have been critically acclaimed as well as attracting record TV audiences and range from five minute interstitials to six hour series, multimedia and stand alone blue chip hours. Titles include the winner of the Film Critics Award for Best Documentary and the Hawaii Film Festival Best Documentary Award, Mr.Patterns; the dramatized documentary Troubled Minds - The Lithium Revolution, winner of the UK Vega Science Award; the three-part Logie nominated and winner of the SMH Couch Potato awards Divorce Stories ; the winner of the Beijing Golden Lion Science Awards and Logie nominated longitudinal cross platform child development science series Life At; the Logie nominated and award winning first Australian series of the standout UK social history and geneology format from Wall To Wall, Who Do You Think You Are?; one of the recent Screen Australia/ABC History programs the dramatised documentary Infamous Victory – Ben Chifley’s Battle For Coal; the winner of the prestigious Sydney Film Festival Rouben Mamoulian Award Growing Up and Going Home; the Prime Ministers National Treasures history series nominated for the Premier’s History Awards, and most recently the two part social history series featuring the story of surfing in Australia, Bombora.
